The FIG Health & Social Services Department are looking for a Dental Practitioner to join our existing team which provides a comprehensive dental and oral health service, including emergency care, based in the King Edward Memorial Hospital in the Islands’ capital, Stanley.  The service currently has facilities for three surgeries plus a small technical area with plans underway to expand the department to four surgeries.  The service follows UK practices and standards of care, modified to meet local needs and circumstances. 

The Role

The successful applicant will join the Dental Service to maintain and promote the oral health of the population by providing a full range of comprehensive dental services in the Falkland Islands. 

This role includes, but is not limited to; examining, diagnosing and consulting with patients about dental health options and treatment. 

You will also be expected to participate in school screening programmes and the development and maintenance of the Oral Health Strategy and assist the Senior Dental Officer in the planning and implementation of improvements to the Dental Department which includes the development of the new Orthodontic Service in the Falkland Islands.

The Person

  • Holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery with a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a general dental practitioner, ideally in a senior post in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) or a primary care community dental practice
  • Registered with the UK General Dental Council or recognised international equivalent which must be maintained for the duration of the appointment
  • Dedicated to providing high quality dental care and improving patient experience
  • Able to work and communicate effectively in a busy general practice with both colleagues and patients
  • Flexible approach to work as there is a requirement to be on-call on weekends, Bank Holidays and Public Holidays and may be required to work outside of normal working hours as necessary

The Package

  • Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years’
  • Salary Range, basic starting salary £87,104 up to £91,451 per annum commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract.
  • 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave)
