Role: Clinical Lead
Grade: Negotiable (Salary based on Salaried Dental Scales)
Reports to: Director of Clinical Dentistry/Chief Executive Officer of PDSE
Directly responsible for:
(a) Clinical Leadership in the Dental Education Facility
(b) Quality and Standards in the Dental Education Facility
(c) All aspects of clinic management and leadership

Role Summary:
To provide Clinical Leadership in the Dental Education Facility for all clinical services and activities. To be active in student supervision clinics, providing support, guidance and a lead clinical decision maker for clinical supervisors in the Dental Education Facility.

Key Accountabilities:
• Clinical standard setting within the Dental Education Facility
• Clinical Lead in clinical standard quality assurance and clinical assessment quality assurance programmes in the Dental Education Facility
• To undertake the appraisal of clinical supervisors
• Line Management of Clinical Supervisors within the DEF in support of Director of Clinical Dentistry
• To provide support to the Director of Clinical Dentistry in representing the Dental Education Facility at the 6 weekly Dental Clinical Quality and Supervisors Meeting
• Foster close and harmonious working relationships with Peninsula Dental School and its staff
• Lead for Patient safety in the Dental Education Facility
• Ensure active attendance at the clinical leads group and to contribute to its workflow
• Provide first line management to Clinical Supervisors including support, mentoring, performance and absence management
• Support recruitment process of new Clinical Supervisors including induction
• To provide any further duties as may be required where appropriate to the role as directed by Director of Clinical Dentistry/Chief Executive Officer of PDSE/PDSE Executive Group
• Provide Direct patient care if no student clinics running

Knowledge, Education & Training:
• Bachelor of Dental Surgery
• GDC Registration
• Evidence of previous Leadership and Management skills.
• Awareness of local and national clinical standards documents
• Master’s Degree in a Dental Discipline (or able to demonstrate equivalent experience)
• Active performers number (or ability to be put on Performers List)
• Significant Primary Care Experience

• Successful outcomes to items listed in key accountabilities and other delegated tasks
• Positive customer feedback (staff, patients and students)
• Meets deadlines
• Manages competing demands

Experience:
• Demonstrable clinical experience in an NHS practice
• Active in clinical dental practice
• Broad experience in a wide range of treatments
• Education experience (Desirable)

Skills:
• First class clinical skills
• Team player who plans ahead and is well organised
• Excellent communication
• Ability to provide concise explanations and clear direction and guidance
• IT Skills including use of SOEL Health (or similar electronic patient record system and Microsoft Office packages
• Willing to work to academic standards and be involved in quality assurance

Normal working hours are 08:45 to 17:00 Monday to Friday, however on occasions to meet business need you will be required to work revised hours, typically between 08:00 and 18:00.

The Working Time Regulations apply to all employees of Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (CIC) In particular Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (CIC) will not permit staff in all employments to work in excess of 48 hours in any one week except where there are exceptional service needs where an absolute limit of averaging over a reference period of 17 weeks would apply.
