The role

These are exciting times for the Dental School at Bristol, with a major capital investment in bespoke clinical dental teaching facilities and a move to a new location in 2023. The Head of School will be a key figure in driving the delivery of the new model and developing the relationships with local Commissioners, NHS Trusts, dental practitioners and patients groups that will be instrumental to the success of the new model.

What will you be doing?

The Head of School provides academic leadership and strategic management within the School so that it achieves the highest academic standards as well as its financial objectives. It is a key academic leadership position within the Faculty, supporting the attainment of the University’s vision and overall objectives, and participating in the collective formulation and delivery of the Faculty and University’s academic strategy.

The right candidate will provide inspirational leadership to the School and its staff, students and partners, enabling the School to further develop its excellent education and research. You will have a strategic vision for the School and its future development, as well as for the School’s role within the University, the city region, the UK and internationally. You will have a deep commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and understand and be ready to champion the benefits of diversifying the current and future pipeline of talent – staff and students – across the Dental School. You will have a track record of excellent partnership working both within your institution with academic and professional services staff, and externally (including in particular with NHS organisations). You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to lead on and drive forward significant change within the School and the wider University.
