This is an exciting opportunity to join Public Health Wales and make a difference through delivery of dental public health functions in Wales. You will take on the national lead role in oral health intelligence, which includes providing leadership for delivery of the Dental Epidemiology Programme in Wales. You will also provide dental public health expertise to Local Health Boards, Welsh Government and other organisations in Wales. 

You will have a track record of delivery of dental public health projects and strong passion for development of oral health intelligence as a strategic asset to influence relevant policies, service planning and understand the impact of oral health programmes in Wales.

As a Consultant in Dental Public Health within the Primary Care Division of the Health and Wellbeing Directorate, you will work closely with other internal teams within Public Health Wales and key external partners, including Dental Policy branch within the Welsh Government, Local Health Boards, Health Education & Improvement Wales, Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and Digital Health and Care Wales.

You will be responsible for establishing mechanisms to collect and interrogate oral health and relevant dental services datasets, and to generate and disseminate knowledge to key stakeholders in Wales. Dissemination of knowledge will include development of effective and innovative methods to exploit web-based and digital platforms.

Public Health Wales has a strong commitment to research and evaluation and all Consultants are encouraged to develop a research interest working closely with our academic partners. You will also contribute to training of dental public health specialty registrars and other trainees as appropriate. You must be on the GDC Dental Public Health Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview.

Our Primary Care Division sits within the Health and Well-Being Directorate in Public Health Wales .The Health and Wellbeing Directorate and our World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Investment in Health and Well-being (WHOCC) Directorates will soon be working as one. This does mean there may be changes to our team structures and we are advising candidates that some roles may be subject to change in the coming 12 months. Changes for staff could include a change in line manager; variations to job descriptions or changes to roles and responsibilities. If changes are required, these will be discussed fully with those affected, in accordance with our Organisational Change Policy.
