About the role


We’re looking for a Senior Dentist specialising in Adult Special Care Dentistryto join our Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Department at Waikato Hospital.

The Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Department provides a tertiary service whose catchment covers the Central North Island of New Zealand. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to grow and develop the service. You will be working in collaboration with the existing Paediatric Specialist.  Currently the Dental Department operates one elective theatre list a week and SMO led clinics with high needs (both medically and dentally) alongside House Officer led clinics with SMO support.  The Dental Department links in with the Older Person Rehabilitation Unit, Henry Rongomau Bennett Centre (Mental Health), Cardiology, Haematology and Oncology to provide patient centred care.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Adult Special Care Dentistry
  • Provision of treatment under General Anaesthetic and Local Anaesthetic to adults in need of special care
  • Both inpatient and referrals from primary care with medical or behavioural challenges who cannot be seen in primary care setting
  • Supporting recently qualified graduate Dentists in their first year

Required skills & experience:

This is a challenging role, which demands outstanding professional skills and commitment to the specialty. We are looking for someone with the vision to provide a team-based service founded on excellence in all aspects of the Dental Department.
