Job Details

The Isles of Scilly is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Completely unspoilt and populated by less than 2,500 people who live on the island communities of Bryher, St Agnes, St Martin’s, St Mary’s and Tresco, surrounded by a further 140 smaller uninhabited islands. A stunning backdrop providing an unrivalled way of life so it’s no wonder people who live there smile constantly, supported of course by our Island Dentist! Our Brighter Dental Dentist on the Isles of Scilly is looking to retire – they’re big boots to fill but could this be you? Or perhaps two of you sharing the role?

Brighter Dental is part of Smile Together Dental CIC, a successful employee-owned Cornish social enterprise.

A place to work

This commercially driven, forward-looking practice has two modern, fully equipped surgeries with dedicated nursing support and full management back-up from the mainland. For the right experienced Dentist there is an extended package to reflect the requirements of the role in providing NHS care as the sole practitioner on the islands. Indemnity and fully-funded training via our bespoke Training Academy is included as well as a generous
relocation package to help get you up and running.

A place to live

As part of the package Brighter Dental provide an attractive four-bedroomed
family house, located close to the practice - just imagine that commute!

Naturally the clear blue water and golden beaches are a big draw for island residents and the tranquil backdrop of the Atlantic really sets the Isles of Scilly apart as one of the most enchanting places in the modern-day world which is not as isolated as you might think. There’s a daily sailing to and from the island which takes just under three hours and daily flights which can have you at Newquay airport in 30 minutes and Exeter in an hour, both of which are international hubs that connect passengers to the rest of the world.

There is ample nursery provision on St Mary’s and Five Island School educates pupils from age 3-16 years - class sizes are small, particularly in secondary, and the pastoral provision exceptional. Our current Dentist has worked hard to engage island children in prevention activities and attending for routine appointments.

An unrivalled work life balance

The challenges in this role are easily offset by one of the best possible ‘work life’ balances available. The Isles of Scilly is a stunning place to visit but an even better place in which to live and work. There’s a distinctly different attitude towards life than on mainland UK - it’s relaxed, welcoming and friendly with an array of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, and a lifestyle that you can pick and choose from. This has got to be one of the most unique Dentist roles in the country but it requires experience, dedication and flexibility alongside commitment to become an integral part of a close-knit community.

If you think you have what it takes to keep Scillonians smiling, please contact Nicola Barr, Clinical Director on 07768 123073 or email joinus.smiletogether@nhs.net and register for our Role Prospectus. More details along with a job description can be found at www.smiletogether.co.uk/careers
