Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Clinical Professor/Clinical Associate Professor/Clinical Assistant Professor in Restorative Dental Sciences in the Faculty of Dentistry (one post) (Ref.: 495680), to commence as soon as possible on a four-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second four-year fixed-term contract.

The HKU Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong and is the only one in Greater China that uses English as the medium of instruction. The Faculty offers both undergraduate and postgraduate dental education which is internationally renowned. The high quality of the Faculty’s teaching and learning, clinical services and research excellence have won global recognition, as evidenced by the Faculty’s World Number One Ranking by the QS World University Ranking by Subject in the years 2016, 2017 and 2018.  The Faculty also plays an important role in public and professional education through its knowledge exchange activities as well as in dental and oral health researches; and promotions in international, regional and local communities.

The Faculty is seeking an academic clinician with a strong interest in contemporary clinical dentistry, teaching and learning and a passion for research.  Applicants should have demonstrated a high level of expertise in undertaking a leadership role in the development of teaching and learning in contemporary practice and philosophies related to restorative dental practice principally in indirect restorative care and CAD/CAM dentistry.Those with a well-established track record in research pertaining to CAD/CAM Dentistry, Restoration of the Broken-Down Dentition and/or Aesthetic Dentistry are highly desirable. 

For appointment as Clinical Professor, applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Dentistry, clinical specialist or equivalent status in Prosthodontics, and a Ph.D. degree or equivalent. They should also have (i) outstanding research and scholarly achievements with international recognition; (ii) demonstrated leadership in teaching and learning; (iii) leadership in their clinical specialty; (iv) leadership in Faculty and University affairs; and (v) leadership in knowledge exchange (KE) activities with international recognition.

For appointment as Clinical Associate Professor, applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Dentistry, clinical specialist or equivalent status in Prosthodontics, and a Ph.D. degree or equivalent.  They should also have (i) proven evidence for quality research, publications in high quality international journals, and local and regional recognition for scholarship and professional expertise; (ii) demonstrated ability in undergraduate and postgraduate education, clinical practice and research; (iii) active participation in Faculty and University affairs; and (iv) solid experience in KE activities and leadership in professional education programmes or community engagement.

For appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor, applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Dentistry, and a Master of Dental Surgery degree or equivalent in Prosthodontics.  They should also have (i) ability in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and clinical practice; (ii) potential for and interest in research; (iii) ability and willingness to participate in Faculty affairs; and (iv) experience in KE activities.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
