About the company

Capital and Coast DHB (CCDHB) is located centrally in Wellington and has the equivalent of around 4,300 full time staff, making us a major employer in the Wellington region. We are also the leading provider of a number of specialist services, including neurosurgery, oncology, neonatal intensive care, and specialised mental health services, for the upper South and lower North Islands, a population of about 900,000 people. Our DHB has an annual budget of more than $1 billion, which we use to deliver health services directly and contract external providers to provide care, such as general practices, rest homes and pharmacists.

Wellington is New Zealand's capital. It is a 'foodies' paradise, cultural art-loving harbour city, and a place you quickly begin to call home. Wellington has been named the best place to live in the world by Deutsche Bank's 2017 study of 47 cities globally ranked. According to Deutsche Bank, it is also officially the city with the world's highest quality of life and has the least pollution of any city ranked.

Service perspective:

The Dental and Oral Health Service provides hospital-based oral health and dental services concerned with maintaining or restoring to function, the hard and soft tissues of the mouth and its supporting and associated structures. In particular those areas affected by major trauma, infection, developmental anomalies, pathology, or the underlying medical or psychological status of the person. The Service provides clinical services which are an essential part of in-patient and outpatient hospital medical and surgical treatment. The Service also has a role in educating hospital staff in the maintenance of oral hygiene and improving oral comfort and function for in-patients. Hospital dental services play a complementary role to the services provided by private dental practitioners and school dental services, but they are not an alternative system.

The Dental and Oral Health Service is staffed by a team of clinical and non-clinical staff who provide a strong commitment to the Service and demonstrate expertise in delivering care to the specialised patient group. The Service has dental departments located at Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals.
